Only 201 words. I really like my idea, but before I go beyond the opening scene — speaking even as someone who usually writes out of order as I come up with ideas for different parts — I need to figure out what exactly a character does to cause the things to happen. There are plenty of other seriously important things I still need to figure out, but that's the one keeping me from the whole rest of the story at this point.

Not doing so good at this end. I have something of an idea but not really sure I care that much for it. I’ll brainstorm for another day or two and then if my muse is still in a contrary mood, will probably have to just consider this one a total bust and bow out before my already dubious reputation is completely in shreds.

Since nothing worth even considering has come to mind, I have decided to withdraw from this particular challenge.

Well, my story ended way differently than I had planned. But damn it, it's almost 700 words over the limit. If I can't shave off the excess, I'll just be a voter/critter instead. But I'll spend the next few days doing my best to trim it down. Going to have to get brutal.  |

I almost wanted to give up — I really like my core idea, but I'm having so much trouble coming up with some major events. At least now I have a better idea of what kind of thing I want to happen, but just not exactly what.
Really hoping I can come up with something and finish on time. I only have like 500 words written right now.

Ya'll can do it! I haven't even started writing my entry but I plan to get most of it done today and then spend the rest of the week editing/trimming but we'll see if that happens. My entries are always massively over the word limit so I expect that to happen again.
Keep hammering away. Just because something doesn't seem perfect or right doesn't mean it's not worth the effort. I bet it's better than you think.

I love this prompt and this competition has been in the back of my mind, but I only jotted down about 200 words of an idea a couple of days ago. Hoping something will come of it by Friday!

Yeah, I'm really behind. I'll keep trying to write it, but I'm not sure I'll finish and I kind of don't like the direction it went in from my initial idea. Might end up being one of the ones I bang out while not being very good.

Inspiration finally hit! Probably cheesy af, but I'm gonna hammer it out in the rnxt 2 days and see where it takes me.

So after hours of on-and-off procrastination on a Saturday with no obligations, I've managed to write about 800 more words. Do I have any business considering Caulder's NaNo thread?
Also, this story is probably kind of bad. It might be one of the ones I get embarrassed by after the contest, if I even manage to finish it. I'll need to think about how to make it more unified, less all-over-the-place—

In my particular instance, it was simply a case of nothing inspirational surfacing.
I had one idea...and one only. I really didn't like it (hated it might not actually be too strong) and, unfortunately, nothing else sparked.
I don't think the contests come around too often. In fact, I usually really look forward to participating and enjoy the process (not to mention adding to my badge collection).
I'm sure, as far as I'm concerned anyway, this non-participation was nothing more than a disappointing one-off.

Quite the opposite, I feel that the forum is most active on months we have contests on. Yes, writing 3000 words, plus editing, is quite a challenge. About your last statement: right you are. Contests are a real draw for members. I guess that's the main reason the lack of entries is a shock. Like, since 2009 I don't remember having to give an extension for such a reason. So weird. |
