Todays taste is a little more... well... dark, but dark does not automatically mean bad does it? In fact I think there is a great deal of beauty to be found in such things including in this wonderful song by Irish singer Karliene I like this. Dark and brooding. Makes me think of walking in nature on gloomy, cloudy days.

Right now my music taste is around building my character's emotional state before writing. Playlists are so crucial to this for me, but I find that it helps to build the mood and feel of the story and if helps to get to know and understand the character. Today it is really about getting inside John's head for this one - the MC for the current project. The goal is to select three songs that the character would like that also speak to their mindset.
While John has a dark mind his is also hopeful and dreams of greater things still to come in his life.
The third song was a little harder to decide on - but it think Andrew Belle works well. At his core he does have a romantic soul though it is at times hard to see.
Never someone to do things half heartedly, John once committed to a task, commits until it is done. Even if that means forever.

My workplace is opening up, and the rainy season here has just started. It's my favourite time of the year. I'm not a person who gets sentimental about where they're from, but this place is beautiful when it rains. I love driving in a light drizzle, listening to music, watching the gray seas roll and tumble, watching mist curl up against the hills and office buildings. So much of my all-time favourite music is "rainy" music. These have been in the rotation a lot recently:
A quietly devastating album.
I lose it every time they get to the guitar solo.

Today my tastes have been focused on building a NaNoWriMo playlist - and Celtic Frost have been just sticking in my mind. Particularly this one song.

...it's a bop, Okay? ... My NaNo playlist is gonna be a little different this year. No Taylor Davis or Two Steps from Hell this time 'round. I'm going for a deep occult-y soundtrack, so I've been listening to lots of In This Moment and Cinephile to get in the mood for some small town witchery:

Linkin park released a previously un-released song, Lost, and Christ what an emotional ride I've been on with it:
It's so surreal listening to this (on repeat, as I have been.) Generally, you expect new music = new vocals but it's Chester from the past, only it's now and he isn't with us anymore. Weird feeling.
I really love the music video though. Does an incredible job, I think, of representing the chaos of a mind and spirit in pain.

My latest musical obsession, STARBENDERS:
Stumbled on them by accident, and I'm already captivated by how broad their sound is. I adore the way their choruses spring to life in a way that catches me off guard with what preceded, but at the same time, feels totally natural. So many interesting sounds blended together: tons of rock and roll, a sprinkling of midwest emo riffs, a dash of Metric's ethereal storytelling, a pinch of punk rock, and some of it even reminds me of The Pretty Reckless' gothic bluesy energy.
