I don't get the chance to game too much these days. But I have had a little bit of a run on Space Engineers recently. Its been a while and I wanted to check out the new updates. Still an amazing game, but its soooooo time consuming.

Ugh, some games on my Wishlist were marked waaaaay down, like by 85%. One of them is "Amnesia: The Dark Descent." This time of year, I love reading horror and attempting to play horror games. "Attempt" is the keyword here.
But I'm scared to death to try "Amnesia." Has anyone played this? Also, "SOMA." Also "Anna." Never has a simple name sounded so horrifying. And SOMA seems like it would scare me even if it didn't take place underwater, which it does, which I don't have the courage for. But I really want to be brave enough...

Funnily enough, SOMA and Amnesia were made by the same studio LOL.
I personally loved Amnesia. I usually play it again every few years once I've forgotten enough of the gameplay that it feels fresh again. It's one of those horror games that's all about hiding and puzzle solving; no beating up monsters to be found here. Hide in the darkness, but use it sparingly or else you risk losing your sanity to the same. Really cool storyline, too with weird magic and questionable morals. Explore a dark, creepy castle, and all the trappings within, and every now and again run screaming from the creatures that hunt you. Scoping out the enemy's pathing so you can get around it unseen is a must. (The sequel: A Machine for Pigs is pretty solid as well, but if you've played The Dark Descent, it's kiiiiiind of easy to figure out the twist before they want you to.)
SOMA is really creepy too, but I'll admit I never actually finished it. I don't know why, I just took a break from it and then never went back. It was a good game, but I ended up just reading a spoiler for how the game ends and left it at that.

Gotta know their path or run right into them and die horribly. Dude, if you can handle these, you can handle Solis Project, easily. I double double double dare ya! I'll play Amnesia if you play Solis Project. (gulp, I shouldn't have said that) Have you played the new one out, the one in the desert? That was the one that caught my eye first, but the old one is the one on sale this weekend. "Amnesia: Rebirth," I think? I did this with "Prey." Had a lot of fun with it until so many aliens spawned that I couldn't figure out how to get past them. Bummer.

Bummer. ...dangit, fine I'm putting Solis Project back on my wish list I need to see these creepy dolls for myself anyway. Okay, so... Amnesia: Rebirth. (And this wont be a spoiler for anything major that happens plot-wise, more just the way they designed the overall progression path.) I was so excited for this game. Totally pumped for a new Amnesia experience. Get a few hours into it, cool and a bit freaky story, more weird magic shit going down, loved the gameplay - at first. And then, I fell down so many holes that I got pissed off enough to start sweating and I uninstalled it LOL. Like I get it, it's a gameplay mechanic that will be used until the end of time because it's a good way to stop you dead in your tracks and snatch away hope. But every. Single. Time. You make it back to the surface, you're introduced to the next leg of your journey by some kind of sinkhole. Crawling across the log, 5 inches from freedom? OOPS, FALLING- Blast open the door so you can take the path up to meet your comrades? OOPS, FALLING- A short walk away from the village? OOPS, QUICKSAN- nope, we're falling into another frickbuttdanged cavern- That being said, it was a pretty dang solid game, and I can't really not recommend it as a horror title. But the magic mineshaft trope gave me hot sweats LOL! I feel like they had so much potential for a dual blast of horror with the desert setting and the underground ruins but I think they really squandered it for the sake of chucking you down hidden mineshafts. /rant

That sounds horrible. I do remember you mentioning it on Discord, now that you mention it. Didn't remember it being this Amnesia game though. Hmm, well, if I'm expecting to fall a lot and be controlled in that way, then I might give it a shot when it goes on sale. Aaaand the creepy dolls are creepy at first, then it's get the f-k outta my way, you stupid dolls. Minor spoiler: To leave a room, you might literally have to hop onto their heads b/c they do not move while you're looking at them. Annoying. I kinda laugh at them now. But anyway. it's the ever-increasing number of darkness monsters and those effing tornadoes that chase you down that provide the longer scare. They can actually kill you. Not those dumb creepy dolls. Stupid dolls.

Bahaha, the two of you have stronger stomachs than me. Horror games are my weakness. I bought Amnesia a while ago, as a face-your-fears kind of thing. I forced myself through the first few minutes, decided I didn't want to have a heart attack in my twenties and refunded the game.

ESO- as my new lap top is digital, It’s not Skyrim and completing those ‘follow’ quests for me has been impossible. I can’t pick a lock in this game to save my life. I’ll need to download DDO and GW2 to play them.

Maybe play the game in broad daylight with lots of people around.

Maybe play the game in broad daylight with lots of people around. Yeah, no doubt! Aaaand I'm actually cheating and watching a full playthrough on YouTube, and at this point, it doesn't look too bad, but I bet it ramps up and crosses that line of NOPE.

No cheating! LOL To be fair, I watch playthroughs of most horror games these days to find out if they're any good or not. Because I am such a little horror snob.

At least I'm not alone in my cheating. But seriously, I think I was okay with Amnesia until I noticed all the dismembered bodies strewn all over the place, one of which is used as a tool to distract the nightmare chasing the player (like, is that necessary when there are other things to throw???), and slogging through water. Water is my big no-no. I HATE water. In Solus Project, if you want to find aaaaaall of the artifacts that buff you, you have to swim down into the unknown. I did that like once, got nauseous and freaked out, and so didn't bother with anything that required swimming. (Water is worse than nightmare dolls, ok?) So that's why I'm also leery about SOMA. Looks awesome, but the whole bloody thing is underwater. Nightmare come true for me.

I know it's not meant to be a horror game, but I can't even get myself to play Subnautica. I partly watched RavingCynic "face his fear" of water by playing it, meanwhile, it's still in my console's library... waiting for the time when I feel brave enough to play it, haha. (psst, probably never)
I played Solus Project a few years ago as well, not expecting it to have horror moments. The dolls were definitely a big hell no and I almost had to quit playing. But I didn't know it had swimming parts to it, too!

But I didn't know it had swimming parts to it, too! LOL! I would never have known that some of those relics in Solus Project were underwater if I hadn't looked up videos on how to find them. Holy crap, some of them were such long swims I don't know how the player didn't drown or die of hypothermia or something. And I was like, Oh Hell No, I'll go without that buff, thank you very much. At least there's no monsters down there chasing you around like in the bloody darkness caves. Those glowing blue cold crystals saved my hide more times than I care to count. C'mon, Caulder Melhaire , you'll love it!
