The O’Leary Incident
“That’s it!” said Doctor Richards. “Time travel can be done.”
“How Reed?” asked his good friend, Victor.
“In chemistry, a condensation reaction, two molecules join, becoming one and producing energy with little water extra.”
“Let’s give it an innocuous test run.”
They decided on a simple test, with no people around. They would go back to October 8, 1871, to see if Mrs. O’Leary’s cow did knock over a lantern and if so, remove any lanterns.
Upon arrival, they realized it was their appearance that spooked the cow into kicking over the lantern. History has mastered the art of irony.

Looking Back
Alex peered into the gilt-framed mirror and sighed. The condensation from his breath blurred the tarnished image, lip curled in a sardonic smile, that returned the stare.
"Pathetic, prehistoric queen," he bitterly told the aging reflection. "No new notches on your bedpost for over a decade now!"
Across the room, a multi-coloured candy shower cascaded down the television screen.
"Skittles," coaxed an alluring voice. "Taste the rainbow."
Alex selected a handful of his own kaleidoscopic, lethal-laced confections and toasted the persuasive sentiment with a glass of imported red wine. The tiny cubes of ice clinked merrily.
"I'll drink to that!"
