Ive come back to this essay over the years and I dont think Ive ever read an essay that truly encompassed the totality of the second world war. And I find it fascinating, especially the section concerning feyness. To my mind feyness is a blessing. And Ive found that it is not a cliche to say that hope is a dangerous thing. Ive seen hope wreck otherwise solid people. They hoped to be relieved, they hoped to be rotated and when that hope is undone they too are undone. I would highly recommend this essay to anyone wanting an insight into war. Ive found it to be true in every regard.
