Whoa, this is my first fiction first place on the new site, and my first time placing in a hook contest, maybe on either version of the site? Thank you.
And I almost didn't go with this idea because it felt like too much of a complete story in itself and didn't seem like there was much to happen next. I think I might try finishing the last sentence and submitting it somewhere as just a flash fiction piece.
Years ago I had a dream where there was a box of bunnies in front of my door and I was excited to take care of them, but they turned out to be battery-powered and hopped away. So I adapted that. Had an alternative idea on the same theme where someone receives a bunch of mysterious materials and tools with a note, "You know what to do" or something like that, and then they realize it's addressed to someone else. But playing on the idea of hollowness just worked too well.

Mine was disqualified. Oops.
The last few days of packing was way more work than I ever imagined. I was having panic attacks and getting zero sleep and this contest kind of got forgotten. Only had two more to vote on I think. Oh well. We are on the road now. Moving to a different state sucks. I don't recommend it.
