Hey peeps!
I am looking to get my novel's first cover art made. I know that Fiverr is a good option for affordable artists, what where else? Reedsy artists look like higher quality art, but they're pricy. And Im on a budget. I know someone personally who makes art on commission. Thats about it.
Other suggestions? Budget is $70-80 tops atm.

Good question. I was looking into Fiverr but worried the artists would just reuse the art I purchased for somebody else. I guess that's the risk we run though.
Another writer I knew found "that perfect picture" on DeviantART some years ago and sent the artist a message offering to buy the image for his cover, and the artist agreed. Then the artist even worked up a new image for the book's sequel.
I tried the same thing with another artist on DA and got crickets in response, so that's hit-and-miss, I guess. Not sure what the popular art site is now though.
Eesh, Google search said it's an average of $500 to $1500 for cover art on Reedsy??? That is way pricey. During the Nebula Conference (full of good info, you should attend) several of the panelists were saying they paid an average of $100 for a cover. Not sure where they were getting that deal though. Probably in my notes somewhere.
But I bet you can find an artist with integrity on Fiverr if you research them and ask them questions before you finalize the order. Careful of the pushy ones though. Since setting up my own Gig there, I've seen how desperate some of those people are to sell jobs and they get weird. Sad thing is that the pushy ones are all from overseas and clearly didn't read their translation of how to get orders and how to not be spammers. But that's a whole other post. Not to scare you off from trying, either. There have been some amazing helpful people on Fiverr so far. I'll probably hire an editor from there next time I need one.

DeviantART. Good idea. I know about that website. I doubt Ill find the perfect picture. Its worth a look.
The buddy I know charges a reasonable rate closer to my budget. I made me sketches for my protagonist over a year ago.
Yep, Reedsy is high end. Probably worth it. Fiverr I am looking at for developmental editors. One lady is editing my first chapter as a sample piece, which Im paying for.
