The Pioneer
No desire for fame or glory, he preferred to be known only as "The Pioneer." Life had always been down market. No family or friends to miss him. No hearts to break at his disappearance. Consummate volunteer for such an endeavor.
March 1956
In the cramped cone, the oxygen dial strapped to his wrist plummeted. Communication fizzled. Now truly alone, he manipulated the craft away from the blue-haloed sphere and its cruel alienation. Clustered stars were acutely brilliant and the Pioneer first to witness such majesty. With a terminal sigh, he drifted with dignity into the cradle of perpetual orbit.
