I just learned of a fun resource. Have you heard of Reedsy? It's a sight where authors can find editors, etc, but it also has a fun selection of writing resources to spur the imagination, including several generators. Here's a link to the Plot Generator to get you started. You can find more under the Tools tab in the menu bar. Clicking the "generate" button gave me this plot to write about: LOL! I mean, who wouldn't want to write that story? Too fun.

Great resource. I got this one, which sounds fascinating (who wouldn't want spontaneously combusting gnomes?!):
PROTAGONIST A blacksmith, who has burnt every bridge.
SECONDARY CHARACTER A pickpocket, who is a drifter.
PLOT It's a dying earth fantasy story about found families. It kicks off in a dank prison with a rival showing up out of the blue.
(Note that: gnomes spontaneously combust in this story. )
And there's a twist! The world is inspired by 17th-century Malaysia.

Bahahahaha!!! I generated a new one and it's so wild. I think everything would work in a believable fashion except for the "Twist" part. What the heck??? A cowgirl and a Thanksgiving dinner in Taiwan? My imagination isn't too shabby, but I don't think I'd bother trying to stretch that one to make it work.

PROTAGONIST A fruit-seller, who tends to be reckless. SECONDARY CHARACTER A witch-in-training, who is rather unpredictable. PLOT It's a comic fantasy story about a descent into madness. It kicks off before a great set of gates with a ruinous piece of gossip being spread. (Note that: someone in the story has a grudge to settle. ) And there's a twist! The prophecy does not come true. Sir Terry Pratchett, come back at once, we need you to write something

This generator would be great for a little short story writing exercise or contest.

This generator would be great for a little short story writing exercise or contest. Yes!!!! I've already written that single-room plot in an 80,000-word novel and that was HARD. But a hookah lounge? Maybe something a little more than just shisha in that hookah.

This is an interesting tool. Flexable and gives you the bare bones to work with.
PROTAGONIST A forensic scientist, who has a strong sense of duty.
SECONDARY CHARACTER A choirboy, who is a lover of taxidermy.
PLOT It's a spy story about the nature of obsession. It kicks off at a funhouse with news of a prison escape. (Note that: the case in this story will involve four generations of a certain family.)
And there's a twist! Someone will be buried alive.
