The weekly (or monthly?) writing question was very useful. It made you think harder about your writing and how you approached it.
The 10,000 word story challenge over one month in the summer. I developed one of the submissions into a whole book.
We also ran an anonymous first chapter challenge once, where each entry was posted anonymously and then all participants critiqued each other and gave points from 1-5 (your critique of your own submission was obviously discounted). Lots of work but really amazing feedback.

Lots of work but really amazing feedback. Oh yeah! I remember the 10,000 Summer Extended Challenge. How cool that it was beneficial. I bet we can reinstate that. Pretty sure I still have the obnoxiously bright badge for it too. Um, do you remember who was in charge of the weekly question? Cuz that would be fabulous to have again. Is anyone interested in taking charge of a Weekly Question task? If so, please post below. A first chapter challenge, eh? That sounds terrifying and very useful. My memory is having trouble recalling that one. Was it a challenge or a contest?

Ehm... I was in charge of the weekly question, after becoming a mod for that forum.... I still have a document with Writing Question Ideas
The first chapter challenge was something we ran once a year for two years. It was a hell of a lot to organise but it was fun. The first prize was a critique from a book editor, which was organised by Bird, I think.

I remember that first chapter contest. I think I placed the last time it was run. The editor's feedback was extremely encouraging and useful. Don't know if I'd participate again, and doubt it'd ever be a regular thing, but I'm sure a second round would be a lot of fun.

Whoa, how did I miss the first chapter contest? I guess I was zoned finishing up my novel project and couldn't afford the distraction? Sounds pretty awesome though!

So would you like to continue that, Farida? If so, that would be fabulous. If not, I bet we could find someone to hand it off to.

Which one was that, Pel? I honestly don't remember a lot of the challenges, especially the ones posted in the last couple of years of Ol' LF. I might be able to find the title of it on archives.org, but the chances of the actual post having been saved is slim.

That was the murder mystery where we were the characters discovering clues about a murder

Do you mean Cluedo? As in that thing in Interactive Writing that’s starting in a few days? If you want in, hop aboard!

Oh, gosh, yes. If that's what you mean, then the link to the next Cluedo is HERE. Isn't it 3-6 players? If so, there are three spots left open.

I was a bit sad to see Shredder go LOL but I can see it being intimidating. That said, if the 200 word forum is going to be the only one guests can peruse, we might want a more attention-getting name for it.
I love the arena and the separation of erotica with a password. We had some really young writers on the site and we always felt the need to protect them. I think having these things in place from the get-go was good.
I don’t care to run the Cover Design contest again. I do covers now and formatting and writing the back cover blurb and all that is so important if you’re planning to self-pub.
As far as the template goes, I think getting rid of it was a good idea. It really frustrated the new people.
Overall I love the way things are laid out. It’s a great setup to bring back all the good things we lived about the original site.

We can go back to Shredder if a majority of people prefer it. I did want to avoid a name that implied violent critiques but couldn't think of anything else.
