So I woke up this morning feeling depressed due to the sheer 2020-ness of 2020. Then I read Raveneye's announcement post in the Discord server. No joke, it was one of the happiest moments of the year for me. I'd given up hope of ever finding a writer's group like the old LF again. To see this forum reignite -- I'm speechless.
Right. Sappy stuff out of the way. *ahem*
Hello, everyone. I go by doublejay9 on the internet, though feel free to call me Jay for short. I was pretty active for the last few years of the forum's previous incarnation, so I'm eager to dive back in. My genre comfort zone is speculative fiction, primarily fantasy and soft sci-fi. I dabble in prose poetry now and again. Most of my writing time these days is spent creating content for my blog Apprentice Wordsmith. It began as a place where I could go in-depth on discussion topics making the rounds on LF or give longer explanations for newbies without feeling like I was hogging the thread. During the hiatus, though, it became a place where I could post my rants and work, if only to help me overcome my anxiety about putting myself out there. Now that LF is back, I look forward to running ideas past you all and get some much-needed critique before they go public.
My day job is freelance blogging and content marketing for small businesses. The bulk of my work is contracted through an agency, though I'm slowly building a base of private clients. I'm not rolling in the dough yet -- not by a long-shot -- but I don't hate my job, and I'm feeling better about my future and life in general than I did in 2017. If 2020 hadn't been so 2020...
That's good enough for an intro post. I'm so glad to be back. Now off to explore all the shiny and get my profile sorted.
