I've started this thread as a place to rat out online predators who pose as publishing companies (really vanity presses) and try to convince you that they can help you make a quick buck. Check the thread back periodically as I come across others, and feel free to add any scam artists you happen by.
Seriously, if anyone wants to self-publish for a reasonable cost, I'll point you to trustworthy editors, cover designers, and formatters and get you through the whole process for around $500-1000. If you forego the edit (which you shouldn't LOL but you do you), we can even get you closer to $200. Do not pay someone thousands of dollars to do for you what you can do for yourself.
First on my list: Your Onine Publicist
I actually received a phone call from them TO MY HOME NUMBER!!! I never put that number on any of my advertising media, so I have no idea how they found it. How incredibly brazen. Even if they had a quality product, they would have lost me with that move before I even heard about it.
This call came from a woman with a thick accent who was obviously reading from a script. She promised that my book would be well received in the international market. Her company read my book, and LOVED it. Could they please work with me and help me market the book.
I told her no thanks, but I did have her send me an email so I could investigate a bit further. You guys should thank me LOL because I'll probably be spammed for life by these folks.
Please, humor yourself and click this link where they ask if we are "Looking For An Expert Publicists?" Oh, for the love of grammar, people! If you're going to scam somebody in writing, please at least use proper grammar.
