Still thinking about this. Haven't officially entered yet and I know I don't have much time left. I do have one question - does the dark theme mean figurative darkness, or could it be literal darkness? I'm not very good at dark themes - I guess it's the eternal Disney princess in me.

I'm not very good at dark themes - I guess it's the eternal Disney princess in me. I believe you can interpret it any way you wish. I'd recommend nothing too obscure, but subtly is welcome.  Personally, I like to make sure the prompt helps influence the theme and characters in different ways, which can be a challenge. I'm finding this contest particularly difficult as the muse is not speaking to me at the moment. Hopefully you can enter! |

Last weekend I enthusiastically wrote half my story in one day. Today I'm picking it up again, and it's just falling apart in my head. The premise is ridiculous. I can't figure out how to state everything gracefully. I'll try to bang it out, but this is probably not going to be a decent story.

Have now written the first 1000 words to 5 different stories and I hate them all. Do-do-do-do-do... 1000 written words in anything is progress. Don't scrap them. You may not hate them later |

I've started 7 stories and been excited for them and then they all fell apart. I'd get the hook and then have no idea what to do with it. There's so much I want to see and do with it but it just isn't working. Ugh! |

I do believe I may have an entry. I sat down last night to tweak an idea I had scrawled in my notebook earlier this year. I started at 9:00 and by the time I was done, I looked at my fitbit and it was nearly midnight. And I wasn't even tired. It's been a while since that happened, and it felt good.
Anyhow, I need to get some editing done and I should be ready to submit by Sunday.

Man, this story is dumb. I mean, after all, it was originally my poem idea, and then I decided to give it a plot and characters. It's fun to write, anyway.
If I have time for a second entry, it'll probably be a poem and not a nonfiction piece.

Guys...I don't know if I'm going to make it. I haven't even started. I haven't had any ideas. I have barely an inkling of a few right now, but I don't know if I can crank out 2500 words of a cohesive story in the next 24 hours. I'll see what I can do, but I'm really upset with myself.
