By the way, Anne Rice died a few days ago. The news hit me like a ton of bricks. I guess because I figured she was really a vampire and would live forever. NY Times article on her death and legacyI started reading her books back in 1994. I remember the year because I was in Hawaii when my cousin introduced me to her vampire chronicles, and I was smitten at once. I was 16. She was one of my earliest writing teachers, one of those authors whose methods and word usage I studied to start puzzling out how words ought to be put together. Anyway, her influence, works, and fandom will long outlive her. She was buried in New Orleans (where else?), where I'm sure her gravestone will be enshrined by readers for years to come. Appropriate, I suppose.

I had no idea who she was until Twitter told me. A game writer I follow said she stopped reading her books when she became a Christian. Bummer. Many memories of her writing to look at for you! A great teacher like that is someone to cherish.

Ah, Anne Rice was such a huge influence during my generation. Lots of my friends read her books. I haven't ever read any of her work, but I want to! Vampires weren't my thing in high school (and aren't really my thing now, but I gotta at least try because's she's prolific). It's so sad when a great author passes away.
