The white cardboard of the box slips into a rusted, burgundy hue that crawls up the buckling sides towards the lid. Something crimson leaks in bubbly pulses from a bottom corner, pushing a sticky trail across her desktop and down the drawers. A sealed envelope with no stamp or address sits next to it, 'For My Muse' scrawled in violet ink across the front.

Hands shaking, she grabs the phone and dials the only number she can think of.

"Fuck's sake, Ian, I love you, but why would you send me an ice cream cake in the middle of June?"
